Ginger, celery and quinoa are three organic superfood that all have something in common. They are all rich in phytonutrients which are disease fighting and health promoting elements of whole foods. Adequate consumption of phytonutrients provides your body with anti-inflammatory benefit that can prevent disorders like migraine.
Migraine, a genetic neurological disease whose symptoms include irritability to light and sound, unfocused vision, and for most individuals, a painful headache. It’s quite a common disorder and under diagnosed. It can affect the whole body and can be terrifying to some. Just imagine yourself lying still for an hour or so, waiting for the pain to disappear. There are many factors that may trigger migraine, like lack of sleep, hormonal changes, stress and of course - food.
Not all food is created equal. Yes, there are certain food that can cause migraine and there’s a long list of them. But the good news is there are also plenty of organic superfood that can help prevent (take note… not cure!) symptoms that leads to migraine.
Let’s take on three excellent migraine fighting food.
Ginger. An organic superfood that contains a rich amount of gingerols, a powerful anti-inflammatory compound that can substantially reduce the intensity of migraine by blocking a chemical messenger called prostaglandins which causes slight swelling in the brain. Gingerols also has an analgesic and sedative qualities and can increase the motility of the gastrointestinal tract. Once you feel a headache setting in, drink ginger tea immediately before it turns into a migraine episode.
Celery. Plant flavonoid called luteolin is abundant in this organic superfood that can block inflammatory response to the brain. It also houses a rich amount of coumarins that gives out a soothing effect on the vascular system. It also suppresses the release of nitric oxide in the brain that causes migraine and headaches. Celery is also known to lower blood pressure due to a compound called phtalides that dilates the vessels and allowing the blood to flow smoothly.
Quinoa. Another migraine fighting organic superfood once called as “the gold of the Incas”. It’s a powerhouse of complete protein with nine essential amino acids. But the best part is that it packs a truckload of folate, phosphorus and magnesium, which are great for individuals prone to migraine. By stabilizing the blood vessel wall leading to the brain gives magnesium the ability to ease migraine which also has a positive effect on headache and depression.
If you’re highly prone to migraine, avoid trigger foods like alcohol, refined sugar, chocolates, grains with gluten and caffeinated drinks. Little sacrifices can go a long way!
Eat Clean. Always go for organic superfood. Stay fit.
