Botanical Name: Cinnamomum camphora
The scent of the Camphor e.o. (essential oil) is fresh and sharp. The smell can also pierce the senses.
When tasted, the Camphor oil is bitter and pungent. It is also slightly cold to the touch. It has been said that the feeling is similar to touching menthol leaves.
The essential oil is known to numb the peripheral sensory nerves. The oil is also a slight antiseptic.
The Camphor e.o. is not readily absorbed by the mucous membrane. However, it is easily absorbed by the subcutaneous tissue.
The Camphor oil has many uses. As a stimulant, it can promote the intellectual centres. It can also help prevent the effects of narcotic drugs. In anxiety or nervousness, it has a different effect. In these disorders, it has a calming effect. It has also been proved to be an excitant in cases of heart failure. It has also been seen to stimulate circulation.
In medicine, the oil is used for calming hysteria. It can also aid in the relief of anxiety. It can also help treat:
- inflammatory conditions.
- heart failures.
When used to fight heart failures, this oil is sometimes used with menthol and phenol.
It can also stimulate other parts of the body. The Camphor e.o. can boost metabolism. It can also help promote better digestion.
The essential oil also provides relief to gas troubles. As a carminative, it does not let gas form in the body. Also, it removes excess gas and expels them off of the body in a healthy way.
It can also be a very effective antispasmodic. It can also be used to treat spasmodic cholera.
